Diane Coleman

diane-officeDiane Coleman was elected to the office of Hudson County Register in November 2016 to serve for a five year term. She officially took office on January 3, 2017. As Register, Ms. Coleman oversees the recording of all land title documents for properties within the County’s twelve municipalities.

Prior to being elected Hudson County Register, Diane served as the Councilwoman for Ward F in Jersey City. Her accomplishments as Councilwoman include successfully advocating for the new City Hall Annex to be built at the MLK Hub as well as market rate, senior citizen, veteran and workforce housing throughout Ward F. The City Hall Annex will serve as a stimulus for economic growth and development on MLK Drive. New housing units have already been built as result of her advocacy work and more units are planned in the near future. Diane also worked in the Hudson County Law Department as a Confidential Aide. She was responsible for managing all Open Public Records Act (OPRA) requests for the county.

As a resident of Jersey City for over sixty years, Diane has been and continues to be a firm defender of and advocate for her community’s residents. She is the Founder and CEO of Building an Empire, Inc., which she operated for over thirteen years. During that time, she provided over 10,500 residents with referrals to other agencies for food, clothing, and furniture. She offered employment readiness seminars, information on job placement and employment opportunities. She also assisted residents in renting apartments and paying security deposits or back rent.

Diane has over forty years of leadership experience in corporate administration and human services. She served as a Congressional Aide to a Congressman who is now a United States Senator, as well as former Executive Vice President of the Urban League of Hudson County. She is currently the Vice Chairwoman of the Hudson County Democratic Organization, member of the Constitutional Officers Association of New Jersey (COANJ) and a member of the International Association of Government Officials (IGO).
